When Alaine’s own life takes an unexpected turn, it’s finally time to visit Haiti herself. She discovers the nation’s proud history as the world’s first Black republic and its equally proud people, but what she uncovers about her own family is even more profound. The secrets her mother has kept, including a generations-old family curse, can no longer be ignored.
