About Derek Milman

Derek Milman is an American author of young adult novels who began his creative life as a child writing short stories about aliens, submarines, and magical strawberries. His early attempts to submit story ideas to computer game companies always resulted in awkward phone calls explaining that he was too young to be put on their payroll. In high school, he published an underground humor magazine that was sold in local stores, earning him a profile in The New York Times at age 14. Milman studied English, Theater, and Creative Writing at Northwestern University, initially focusing on playwriting and screenwriting, with his first play produced in New York City shortly after graduation. He later earned an MFA in acting from the Yale School of Drama.

As a classically trained actor, Milman has performed on stages across the country and appeared in television shows and films, working with Academy Award-winning directors. He has also taught at a film school in NYC and held various other jobs, including a brief stint as a DJ. Milman began writing young adult fiction a few years ago. His debut YA novel, Scream All Night, was published in 2018. His second novel, Swipe Right for Murder, followed in 2019, and his third, A Darker Mischief, is set for release in 2024. Milman lives in Brooklyn, New York, where he writes full-time.
