About Amy Tintera

Over twenty languages. That's how far Listen for the Lie has traveled since Amy Tintera made the leap from YA fantasy to adult fiction. The New York Times and USA Today bestselling author grew up in Austin, Texas, and her roots show—she sets most of her novels in the Lone Star state. She debuted in 2013 with Reboot and built a career writing for teens before pivoting to adults with a thriller that became a Good Morning America Book Club pick.

Listen for the Lie swept awards season: it won the Audie for Best Mystery Audiobook and earned Edgar and ITW nominations. Tintera's path to writing wound through Hollywood, where she worked as a talent agency assistant. Her journalism degree from Texas A&M and screenwriting master's from Emerson College shaped her sharp, propulsive style. Now based in Los Angeles with her dog, she trades Texas humidity for California sunshine—though she admits the Tex-Mex doesn't compare.

    Description
Seventeen-year-old Clara is already running when we meet her, desperate to escape the suffocating grip of an abusive father and the ruins of the only life she has ever known. With the world ravaged by scrabs—terrifying, earth-dwelling monsters that tear through the ground without warning—Clara sees a singular path to freedom. She leaps at the chance to join an international monster-fighting squad, trading the familiar horrors of her home for the lethal unpredictability of the front lines, driven by a raw, desperate need to fight back against the darkness consuming her world. The reality of the squad, however, is a brutal awakening that goes far beyond the romanticized allure of the battlefield. Training brings a relentless barrage of sore muscles, exhaustion, and the looming, ever-present specter of death that hangs over every mission. As Clara hones her skills and learns to move in sync with her teammates, she confronts the visceral violence of the scrabs—creatures that are as unpredictable as they are lethal, demanding every ounce of her strength and resolve just to survive the encounter. Yet, as the dust settles on the skirmishes and the adrenaline fades, Clara begins to sense a disquieting shift in the narrative of her war. The scrabs, for all their teeth and terror, might not be the true villains of this story. There is a creeping realization that the most dangerous monsters are not the ones clawing out of the earth, but the ones standing right beside her, hiding behind human faces and waiting…

    Description
In a world where the line between hero and monster is dangerously thin, Amy Tintera’s All These Warriors drags you into a landscape defined by blood and ancient magic. It is a place where the sky often feels heavier than the earth, pressing down on characters who are just trying to survive the next sunrise without losing their souls. The atmosphere is thick with tension, a constant reminder that safety is a luxury no one can truly afford here. Tintera masterfully builds a mood of unease that permeates every scene, making the silence between conversations feel as loud as the battles themselves. You can almost smell the damp stone of the hideouts and feel the chill of the wind that carries the scent of impending doom. This isn't just a backdrop; it is a living, breathing entity that shapes the decisions of everyone involved, forcing them to confront the darkness both outside and within. At the heart of this turmoil is a struggle that feels both epic and intimately personal, pitting raw power against the fragile bonds of loyalty. The stakes are incredibly high, not just for the fate of the realm, but for the individual hearts beating in the chaos. It is a story about finding the strength to keep fighting when you are unsure if you are even the good guy anymore. I found myself completely absorbed by the raw emotional current that runs through these pages, rooting for people who are flawed and beautifully human. If you…

    Description
This book redefines what it means to be human by stripping away everything we think makes us alive. It’s a visceral, high-octane thriller that asks if a heart can truly start beating again after it has stopped. Tintera doesn’t just give us a dystopian setting; she gives us a world where death is merely a pause button, and the consequences are terrifyingly addictive. Wren 178 is a Reboot, a dead teenager brought back to life by the government to serve as a super-soldier. The longer you were dead, the less human you are when you wake up. With 178 minutes of death time, Wren is the coldest, most lethal soldier around, utterly detached from the emotions that once defined her. She is a perfect weapon, until a new Reboot arrives and cracks her icy exterior. Callum 22 is everything Wren is not: he is weak, funny, and dangerously human. His death time was short, leaving him with a smile and a moral compass that shouldn't exist in their facility. Wren should have eliminated him the moment he failed training, but something stays her hand. Suddenly, her perfect record is at risk, and the rigid hierarchy of the Reboot world begins to fracture. The central conflict here isn't just about escaping a sinister facility; it’s about the choice between feeling nothing and risking everything for a connection. As Wren struggles to understand her pull toward Callum, the stakes rise from personal insubordination to a fight for their very lives. It is…

    Description
In a world where death is merely a pause rather than an ending, Amy Tintera’s *Rebel / Reset* plunges readers into a society where the deceased are rebooted as soldiers, stripped of their memories and emotions. It is a chilling concept that immediately grabs hold, asking what remains of humanity when the mind is wiped clean and the body becomes a weapon of the state. Wren, a protagonist with a lethal efficiency and a buried past, stands at the center of this storm, her existence a tightly wound secret waiting to unravel. The narrative tension is palpable as she navigates a rigid hierarchy, her internal struggle bleeding into every calculated move she makes on the battlefield. What truly sets this apart is the raw, kinetic energy of the rebellion that sparks when Wren encounters Callum, a reboot who shouldn’t remember his past but inexplicably does. Their dynamic crackles with danger and a desperate need for connection, driving the plot forward with a momentum that feels both inevitable and surprising. This is a story about the fight to reclaim one’s identity from a system designed to erase it, blending high-octane action with a surprisingly tender heart. It is a gripping exploration of memory and free will that lingers long after the final page is turned.

    Description
In the kingdom of Lera, being Ruined is a death sentence, yet Emelina Flores survives. She is the last of her kind, a warrior race hunted to near extinction for their supposed savagery and supernatural abilities. With her parents murdered and her sister held hostage by the enemy, Em has spent years training in the shadows, driven by a singular, desperate need for rescue rather than revenge. The narrative hinges on a high-stakes deception that forces Em to infiltrate the royal family of Lera. She intends to murder Prince Casimir to secure her sister's freedom, but the plan complicates itself when she discovers the prince is not the monster she imagined. Tintera constructs a tense, volatile dynamic between the captive and the captor, blurring the lines between duty and desire with sharp, emotional precision. What sets this apart is the raw, kinetic energy of the fight scenes juxtaposed with the quiet, devastating internal monologue of a girl torn between her heritage and her heart. The world-building is lean but effective, establishing a brutal caste system without getting bogged down in exposition. It is a story about the cost of survival and the dangerous allure of forgiveness, told with a propulsive urgency that refuses to let up.

    Description
Emelina Flores stands amidst the wreckage of a hard-won revolution, realizing too late that the spoils of war look nothing like the peace she once imagined. While she and her sister Olivia began as united saviors for the people of Ruina, the brutal conflict has irrevocably altered their trajectories. Em watches in horror as Olivia’s thirst for vengeance curdles into a singular, terrifying ambition, leaving the elder sister less a liberator and more a tyrant in the making. What sets this narrative apart is its unflinching examination of how freedom can fracture a family, turning shared dreams into opposing nightmares. Tintera does not shy away from the messy reality of post-war politics, where the lines between heroism and monstrosity blur with every violent act committed in the name of justice. It is a story that asks difficult questions about the cost of retribution, forcing the reader to consider whether some victories are too pyrrhic to celebrate. As Em is left to gather the jagged pieces of their shattered alliance, the stakes shift from national liberation to personal salvation. The tension is no longer just about defeating an enemy, but about surviving the darkness growing within her own bloodline. This is a poignant, high-stakes exploration of loyalty and identity, proving that the hardest battles often begin only after the war is officially over.

    Description
Emelina Flores has returned to Ruina, dragging her sister Olivia out of the darkness of a Lera prison cell and back into the wreckage of their homeland. The air is thick with the promise of reclamation, but the sisters stand on fractured ground as they survey the ruins. Olivia is burning with a singular, terrifying focus, ready to dismantle anyone who ever dared to threaten their people. She wants blood for the years of suffering, a total annihilation of their enemies that leaves no room for hesitation. Em, however, finds herself caught in the silence between the battles. Her time posing as Prince Casimir’s betrothed in Lera did more than secure their escape; it cracked her worldview open. She saw the humans not just as faceless oppressors, but as people living in fear, much like her own. The war is no longer a simple equation of us versus them, and that uncertainty is a dangerous thing to carry when your sister is calling for fire. The conflict that drives this story is not just the clash of armies, but the splintering of a bond. Em and Olivia want the same glorious future for Ruina, but their paths to get there are diverging sharply. One sister pushes for destruction, while the other reaches for a more complicated truth that could get them both killed. The stakes are personal, cutting deep into the trust they hold sacred. Tintera ratchets up the tension by forcing Em to choose between her loyalty to her…

    Description
The moment the letter arrives, everything changes for Marguerite, pulling her into the high-stakes world of the Q, a competition where only the most ruthless survive. She steps onto the stage not for glory, but out of desperation, driven by a secret need that eclipses the fear of elimination. The atmosphere is electric and unforgiving, a brutal test of wits and will where one wrong move means the end of the line, and the line between ally and enemy blurs with every challenge. As the games intensify, the psychological toll mounts, forcing Marguerite to question who she can trust in a sea of calculated facades. It is not merely a contest of strength but a labyrinth of intrigue where information is the most dangerous currency. Tintera peels back the layers of ambition and survival, revealing the raw human cost of a system designed to pit individuals against one another for the entertainment of the few. This novel is a gripping exploration of how far we will go when backed into a corner, blending pulse-pounding action with a sharp emotional core. It lingers in the mind long after the final page, a testament to the resilience required to maintain one’s identity in a game designed to strip it away. A must-read for anyone who craves a story that thrills while it cuts deep.

    Description
Five years ago, Lucy was found wandering the streets of her small Texas town, dazed and covered in her best friend Savvy’s blood. She was the golden girl with the perfect fiancé and the big new house, while Savvy was the social butterfly everyone adored. But that night shattered everything, leaving Lucy with a void where her memories should be and a town convinced she is a killer who got away with murder. The atmosphere is thick with Southern humidity and judgment, a suffocating blend of past privilege and present infamy that Lucy escaped by moving to Los Angeles. Now, the past catches up with her through the headphones of millions. A phenomenally popular true crime podcast, "Listen for the Lie," has chosen Savvy’s unsolved murder for its second season. The host, the charming Ben Owens, drags Lucy back to the place she swore never to return, turning her private nightmare into public entertainment. As the microphones track her every move, Lucy must navigate the lingering suspicions of old friends and strangers alike, all while wondering if the darkness they are hunting resides inside her own mind. This is a story about the weight of memory and the distortion of truth in the age of digital voyeurism. Tintera captures the claustrophobia of a small town where everyone knows your history, even the parts you can’t remember yourself. The tension builds not just from the question of who killed Savvy, but from the terrifying possibility that Lucy might be the villain…
