Description
In 1950s Louisiana, Ginny Polk returns to Greenmount State Penitentiary, the place where her father died, to work as a prison cook. She knows the harsh realities within its walls, but she has never seen the inmates as monsters. This compassion drives her to take on a unique responsibility: preparing the final meals for prisoners facing execution. Ginny honors their humanity by meticulously recreating their requested dishes, even consulting with heartbroken relatives to perfect each recipe, a ritual that draws the disapproval of the prison board and Warden Roscoe Simms, her father's friend.
But when Ginny uncovers information about the man executed for her father's murder, it unravels a series of dark and painful revelations. The lines between truth, justice, and mercy blur, forcing Ginny to confront the possibility that the most shocking crimes are sometimes born not of anger or greed, but of love. She must now grapple with the complex sacrifices made in the name of that love.
