Description
On a windswept peninsula in 1865 Ireland, Tomás and his reluctant son, Liam, undertake the monumental task of mapping the country for the Ordnance Survey. In a land still reeling from the Great Hunger, Tomás is determined his maps will serve as a record of the devastation. But an unsettling encounter in a copse sends him off course, irrevocably altering his life and those of his family. Liam, only ten, is terrified by the sudden change in his taciturn father and must find a way to finish the mapping and get them both home. Land is a novel of separation and reunion, tragedy and recovery, and how, when it comes to both land and history, nothing ever goes away.
